México ante un nuevo paradigma energético: así fue el primer Diálogo Estratégico 2025 sobre seguridad energética
El 20 de mayo se celebró en El Colegio de México el primer encuentro de la serie “Desbloqueando la Transición Energética en México: entre el legado fósil y el futuro eléctrico”, bajo el título:
Seguridad energética y transición en tiempos de Trump.
Organizado por Sostenibilidad Global A.C., en colaboración con LINGO, El Colegio de México y la Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana Unidad Xochimilco, este diálogo estratégico marcó el inicio de una serie mensual para impulsar una transición energética justa y resiliente en México.
Vulnerabilidad energética: México y su dependencia del gas de Estados Unidos
Durante la jornada, se abordó uno de los mayores desafíos del sistema energético mexicano:
✅ México importa más del 70% de su gas natural desde Estados Unidos.
✅ Al menos 60% de la electricidad nacional se genera con gas.
✅ Más del 53.9% de esa electricidad proviene directamente del gas importado.
Estos datos, presentados por la Dra. Isabel Studer, presidenta de Sostenibilidad Global, evidencian una vulnerabilidad estratégica ante escenarios internacionales inciertos, como el posible regreso de una política energética proteccionista en Estados Unidos.
Expertos reunidos para una visión conjunta
El evento contó con la participación de actores clave del sector energético:
Dra. Landy Sánchez (El Colegio de México) dio la bienvenida institucional.
Dr. Francisco Barnés abordó las lecciones aprendidas de la crisis del gas en Texas en 2021 y propuso medidas inmediatas para fortalecer la resiliencia.
Dr. Kjell Kühne presentó una visión de largo plazo para lograr una soberanía energética basada en energías renovables.
Dra. Isabel Studer enfatizó la necesidad de articular sinergias entre corto y largo plazo, priorizando la eficiencia, la electrificación, el almacenamiento y la descarbonización.
Mtro. Miguel Ángel Covián (Sostenibilidad Global) moderó la conversación.
¿Por qué urge una transición energética en México?
Los datos compartidos durante el diálogo muestran que el modelo actual es insostenible:
📉 México ha incrementado significativamente su demanda de gas en los últimos 20 años.
📈 Los precios del gas son volátiles, lo que pone en riesgo la estabilidad del sistema eléctrico.
🌎 La dependencia de importaciones energéticas es un fenómeno global, pero México está especialmente expuesto.
Una transición energética justa, basada en energías limpias, permitirá reducir la exposición a riesgos externos, mejorar la seguridad energética y contribuir a la lucha contra el cambio climático.
¿Qué sigue?
Este diálogo es solo el comienzo. En los próximos meses, la serie continuará abordando temas clave para desbloquear la transición energética en México, integrando perspectivas académicas, institucionales, legislativas y sociales.
